Splitwise keeps your history behind its own walls, but there is a built-in export. Here is exactly where it is, what you get, and how to keep your balances when you move.
Exporting, step by step
Sign in at splitwise.com and open the group you want. Exports are per group, so you will repeat this for each one. The website is the reliable path; the mobile app tucks the option away or omits it depending on version.
In the group's right sidebar, click the gear icon, then "Export as spreadsheet". A CSV file downloads immediately. No Pro plan needed.
Repeat for each group you care about. One group, one file.
What is in the file
A plain CSV any spreadsheet app can open. Fixed columns first, then one column per person showing what they paid minus what they owed on each expense:
The last line is a "Total balance" summary row, not an expense. Skip it if you process the file yourself.
Multi-currency groups keep each expense's own currency in its row.
The export does not include comments, receipts, or images. Those stay behind.
Keeping your history AND your balances
A spreadsheet is a backup, not a working ledger. If you want to keep splitting expenses without re-entering anything, import the file into an app that can rebuild the group from it.
Get the CSV onto your phone: AirDrop it, email it to yourself, or save it to Files.
In Dutched: open Account, tap Import from Splitwise, and pick the file.
Tell it which member is you, then import. Your history and balances arrive intact. Groupmates join as claimable members: they see their share, and can take over their own history later with a code, without being forced to sign up first.
